On April 22nd, The awareness and educative celebration of the day took place in SIRA Bilingual Nursery and Makepe Douala Primary School with the Class 6 pupils of the school under the theme |” Restore our Earth”.
In the course of the celebration with over a hundred kids, the facilitators gave a brief history of the day and went ahead to educate the pupils on the importance of the day, and why the day should be celebrated. They stressed the importance of tree planting, clean ups and conserving the environment.
The awareness campaign saw the pupils moving out of their classroom to do some pick-ups and visit some plants they planted in 2020. It should be noted that the day is celebrated each year on the 22nd of April.
At the end of the short lectures and the awareness reawakening of the kids, some of them had the chance to ask questions on why some governments in Africa are not taking climate change seriously. Some kids who answered questions correctly were promised to be rewarded at the school year-end graduation ceremony.
The day ended with a group photography and the excited kids went back to their classes happily after washing their hands.
