World Water Day, on 22 March every year, is about taking action to tackle the water crisis. Today, 1.8 billion people use a source of drinking water contaminated with faeces, putting them at risk of contracting cholera, dysentery, typhoid and polio.
The Sustainable Development Goals, launched in 2015, include a target to ensure everyone has access to safe water by 2030, making water a key issue in the fight to eradicate extreme poverty.
In 1993, the United Nations General Assembly officially designated March 22 as World Water Day. World Water Day is coordinated by UN-Water in collaboration with governments and partners.
World Water Day 2017 was celebrated by Rising Hope Foundation for Change in partnership with Walk For Water to raise awareness about the importance of water with the theme wastewater and the campaign, ‘Why waste water?’, is about reducing and reusing wastewater. Water is vital for life on earth, yet millions still do not have access to clean water . “Water is life” and we are determined to improve lives by increasing awareness, minimising wastage, promoting rainwater harvesting and purification of recycled and contaminated water. It is against this backdrop that RHFC and partner Walk For Water decided to reached out to millions via social media campaign in Germany and Cameroon to get more people to know about World Water Day and to participate in this year 2017 celebration. A total of about 2million plus people where reached during this year’s celebration via our social media channels( Facebook, instagram and twitter) and face to face talk with individuals. All in all, RHFC was able to achieved the stated objective to raise awareness to 2million plus people around the world via social media. We take the appointment for next year March 22. 2018. Together with our partners, donors and sponsors, we will be able to reach more people with a bigger event in Cameroon. Together we can journey for a sustainable future if we save and preserve water , WATER IS LIFE.
